Life story
October 22, 1985

Scott was born to Craig & Ginger Grant, Tuesday, October 22, 1985 at 8:14 a.m. in Springfield, MO at Cox South Hospital. He had an older brother named Christopher who was 6 at the time.  From the moment he was born he it was easy to see he would not be the ordinary guy.  He seemed to have a knowing smile even at birth....like he knew something the rest of us didn't.

He, after 6 wks., went to a private sitter then on to the Cox Nursery.  At the nursery he made the ladies fall in love and would make what they called "googly eyes" at them.  By the time he was 1 he had his first girlfriend, named Sarah.  They were inseparable at the day care.

He was fascinated by his new baby brother in May 1987.  They were exactly  19 months apart.  They spent the next few years being best buddies.  At age 5 Scott had a new girlfriend named Cara.  Every morning he would have me (Mom) fix his hair saying "It's sticking up a wild Indian!"  He would make those eyes at her and she would just flip her ponytail until she got on the bus.
A year later he started Kindergarten at Willard North.  He loved people and made many friends there.  He continued those friendships through his life. All the kids wanted hair like his....spikes.  Oh those spikes!  We hairsprayed them so they were stiff as a board and stayed up all day.  He was a happy boy and the most trouble he got into at school was talking too much.

The years in elementary flew by and he continued to make life-long friends.  In 7th or 8th grade, he had his 1st "real" girlfriend.  Lani.  She was an interesting choice.  They "dated" for quite some time.

As high school began Scott still seemed to be the sweetheart he always was aside from the "normal" teenage boy nonsense. He had a few girlfriends during that time.  However, Feb. 7, 2003 brought tragedy.  He was the front passenger in Cory Jone's car which ran off the road and hit a rock.  In the back were Tyler Wilcutt and Ritchie Cook.

That accident was the beginning of a life course change.  Scott broke his back and had to have it rebuilt using bone from his hip.  He had 2 rods and 6 screws in his back.  He also had a collasped lung, concussion, ankle sprains, and wrist sprains.  7 months later he had another accident that caused one of the screws to break.  In Jan. 2004, Scott had a second major back surgery.  They removed all the "hardware" but his back had not healed as well as they thought.  He was in constant pain.  As time went he received other injuries.  One was from a so-called friend who hit him in the eye with a board causing him to see double until the day he died.  Another was from 2 punks who beat him up very badly, even leaving a shoe print on his chest.  This resulted in yet another concussion.  Scott's pain increased and so did his drug use.

I do have to mention after Scott's 1st accident he went to his 1st prom a few months later and fell in love with Angela Grandon.  They were together for a long time and everyone expected them to eventually marry.  Due to various circumstances, they did break up.  Although each of them dated other people after that I am not sure they ever got over each other.

His final concussion came shortly after the Jan. 2007 ice storm.  This, if you know Scott, is kind of funny.  He was being his Scotty self and decided to jump over a handrail onto the grass.  However, he did not think that although the steps were free of ice, the grass was not.  He slid into a gas meter resulting in a concussion and 10 stitches.  The injuries are not funny.  Scott being Scott, is.

Scott's final injury was sustained shortly before he died.  He was bucked off a horse he should not have been on in the 1st place.  That hurt his back and resulted in him taking more meds.

The day he died, Father's Day, he called his Grandpa about 10 a.m. and told him he was not feeling well.  I went in to his room at 5:30 to wake him for our cookout.  He was gone.

It was the worst day of my life. Although I do know, that whatever is after this life, Scott does not have any pain or suffering of any kind.  I like to believe that he is always around being his Scotty self and enjoying his new playground.
